Summary
A System Engineer is involved in the provisioning, deployment, configuration, and administration of various IT hardware and software components. These include Microsoft Servers, PCs, VMware ESXi hosts, NAS devices, various network monitoring tools, and VPNs.
Job Duties
Works closely with the System Architect and the Cyber Security section to administer the Active Directory and Group Policy of the domain.
VMware ESXi host, SAN, and NAS configuration and maintenance
Manage software deployments and Windows Updates.
Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted departments.
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
Update, maintain all documentation requested by management, and will be tasked with improving such documentation as required.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Accomplishes the organization's mission by completing related tasks as needed within information systems.
Takes immediate corrective action(s) against unsafe conditions to the best of one's own ability.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related program.
5+ years’ experience with expert knowledge of all major Microsoft Windows operating systems, Windows servers, and Office 365.
3+ years’ experience in VMware ESX/ESXi, SAN and NAS, LAN Knowledge, Proxy Servers, Networking Knowledge, VOIP, Network Troubleshooting, Network Performance Tuning.
High degree of problem-solving.
Ability to work with people and various departments to assist with identifying their needs and solutions.
Knowledge of Network routers, switches, and firewalls, including software and hardware configurations, is a plus.
License/Certifications
MCSE, VMware ESX/ESXi preferred
CCNA preferred
Location
This position is full-time and on-site at our Sugar Land, Texas, headquarters in Houston.
